Into the Deadlands has been a massive undertaking, at over 400,000 words on the page—but a lot more than you’ll ever see. And countless hours. Ruby’s story is finally done and dusted. But in the end, it wasn’t just Ruby’s story. It was the story of her family and friends, and all the worlds they touched. It’s so exciting to have it all come together in a way that makes me happy.
In terms of exciting things I didn’t expect, here are a few.
Ruby grew up and fell in love, unexpectedly. The character she was supposed to fall in love with turned out ick, and a surprise friendship developed.
Mandy the troll erupted from the Into the Underworld story and her plot started to completely take over—which is why she now has her own book. But more on that another day.
We had the fall of the DragonLands in Into Treachery, and discover what Aiden has been doing after he disappeared from the demon mines.
And the big thing about Into the DeadLands, is Keera’s backstory is finally revealed. And we get to see the true stakes that have been bubbling along under the rest of the story.
